Community council minutes

Loch Duich Community Council
Meeting held in Inverinate Community centre
Thursday 13 Dec 2007 at 8.00pm

Present: Mr Berwyn Edwards (Chairman)
Ms Fiona Macdonald Mr John Falconer
Mr Willie Fraser Mrs Christine Fraser
Mrs Marina MacRae Councillor Biz Campbell
Police: Brian Harper & Julie Wood
Apologies: Mr John Metcalfe Mrs Jayne Croy
  Mr Roddy Gillies

Minutes of previous meeting were approved.

Police matters – Berwyn thanked Brian & Julie for coming along.
Speeding – Brian assured everyone that speeding checks were done as often as possible (given limitations of police cover across the area). Biz undertook to talk to her contacts re. securing the use of a ‘smiley face’ speed sign in the 40 mph area of Inverinate. Brian stated that this would be most effective if it was erected for a spell, removed and re-erected for a later period rather than being in constant use.
Travelling people – The local police have a policy of non-harassment re. travelling people in the area. Generally this has been found to work well and the travellers are co-operative.
Home security – the police have found that external areas/buildings are most at risk – with garages, sheds and vehicles left unlocked. Brian undertook to find out who was the local police contact for security advice and pass on their contact details.
Dumped vehicles – Brian undertook to supply the contact details for a service that uplifts dumped vehicles free-of-charge.
Berwyn thanked Brian & Julie for attending the meeting and they then left.

Chairman’s Report & Correspondence
Children’s Christmas party – in response to a letter from the committee, it was agreed that a donation of £300 be given towards the costs of the party.

Matters Arising
OAP Party – Berwyn mentioned that there was some doubt over whether an OAP Christmas party would take place this year due to personal commitments of the key organisers and diminishing numbers of people on the Hall Committee. There was every intention to resume the OAP party next year. Whilst it was regrettable that there would be no party, Berwyn took the opportunity to express the community’s thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to make the party such a success for so many years.
Christmas Cards for over 60s – in the past, either a small gift and/or an invitation to the party would have been enclosed. This time, neither would be available. Once a definite decision was made re. the OAP party, Marina was asked to find out how that would be communicated to the senior citizens and see if it would be appropriate to enclose a card with that communication.
Hall AGM - has been postponed until mid January. There was a pressing need for more support and more volunteers to join the committee.
Ward Forums – Biz reminded folks that a ward forum (bringing together the community councils) would take place in Kyle on 19th Jan. Marina had contacted the Ward Manager (Robbie Bain) and invited him to attend a future meeting in Inverinate.
Scottish Water – Fiona had attended the recent meeting in Inverness and had been given more information and re-assured that they were filtering the water so efficiently at the treatment plant that there was no need to put chlorine etc. in the water.

AOB
Website – Liz Taylor has been busy working on developing and improving the site and was looking for feedback. Marina passed round the details and everyone was asked to have a look and report back. She also encouraged everyone to think of ways that we can all use the website more.

Next meeting –Thursday 24th Jan at 8pm
Inverinate Community Centre.
