Digital TV
Berwyn welcomed Alan Cowie from Digital UK. He explained that our
area expected to switch to digital in July - Sept 2010, with
the actual date being fixed in late 2009.
Alan explained the benefits of digital TV – better subtitling,
audio description for the blind & partially blind, better quality
of picture etc. He then spoke about a help line and publicised
the Help Scheme for the over 75s, which would, at a cost of £40,
set up and install digital equipment on one TV per household, where
there was a resident over 75. Given the problems we have in receiving
a signal, it was likely this would mean installing a satellite
dish. Alan then explained about FreeView and FreeSat and left booklets
with Berwyn to pass on to over 75s in the area. Berwyn then thanked
Alan for clarifying the situation.
Chairman’s Report & Correspondence
LEADER funding – letter received re. funding available via
LEADER. Biz explained that this would be for large scale projects.
There was some discussion on what might be best in our area, including
a children’s play area at the hall. It was suggested that
if this was pursued, putting the idea to the Hall Committee and
applying via them would be the best option.
Kids Christmas Party – letter of thanks received re. the £250
donation for the kid’s party.
Matters Arising
Transerv – email received from Andy Fraser
re. gritting but nothing as yet on the other issues. Ian mentioned
that Transerv
workers had marked several of the potholes on the footpath but
omitted others. Ian undertook to provide details of the potholes
that had been overlooked. Marina will then contact Transerv and
chase them up on the outstanding matters.
WHFP Xmas greetings – Donald had displayed
greetings posters at Shiel Shop, Petrol station etc. and was thanked
for that.
Inverinate Lodge – Berwyn congratulated
Biz on the excellent job she had made in putting the case forward
for the approval of
the new lodge, at the planning meeting. The outcome was very much
welcomed by the community council.
AOCB
Potholes – Donald mentioned the very bad
pothole at the church corner, Shiel Bridge. Several nasty potholes
had opened up in the
road over the winter. Marina would mention this in correspondence
with Transerv.
Minutes – agreed that, from now on, a copy
of minutes would be forwarded to the WHFP.
Website – Liz asked that folks contact her
with any entries for the 2009 diary.
Dates of next meetings
The next meetings will be on Thurs 26th Feb and Thurs 26th March
2009.
