Community council minutes

Loch Duich Community Council
Meeting held in Inverinate Community centre
Thursday 17 May 2007 at 8.00pm

Present: Mr Berwyn Edwards (Chairman)
Mr Donald MacIntosh Mrs Jayne Croy
Councillor Biz Campbell Mrs Christine Fraser
Mrs Marina MacRae Ms Fiona MacDonald
  Mr Willie Fraser
Apologies: Mr Roddy Gillies, Mr John Falconer, Mr John Metcalfe

Minutes of previous meeting were approved.

Police Issues
A police officer was unable to attend the meeting but Marina had informed the Police of the issues that were of concern (speeding through Inverinate, the rights of travelling people, out of hour response times) and that an officer would come along to a future meeting. There was then some discussion about whether some sort of traffic-calming could be used to curb the speed of cars throughout Inverinate.

Correspondence
Scottish Water – there had been no response from Sue Nield re. the invitation to attend the June meeting. This would be followed up by Marina & Fiona.
Leachachan Roadsign – a letter had been received from Keith Harrild re. the non-appearance of a promised road sign for Leachachan. There had been no progress despite a visit from a Council representative in late 2006, who had promised to erect a sign. Biz undertook to chase this up again.
Letter of thanks – had been received from Murdie & Mary MacRae following the gift given to them by the Community Council on the occasion of their Golden Wedding.

Matters Arising
Website – Donald confirmed that the community website was up and running – www.aroundtheloch.co.uk - and that so far nine people/businesses had joined up. Marina agreed that she would forward some church info to be included and that she would speak to Alasdair Earnshaw about including more school information (eg. the newsletter.)
Noticeboards – were in place and already in use.
Textile recycling via Blythswood – it was suggested that the info on pick up times (as shown in WHFP) should be advertised on the Community Noticeboards.

Any Other Business
Skip – a skip was requested for the layby across from the Forestry houses, Inverinate.
Community Bus Run – Fiona mentioned that the free bus run for pensioners, into Kyle, needed to be better advertised. The bus run operates on Tuesdays and the contact is John Angus Maclean, Glenelg (522334).
Graham House – there was some discussion re. the EORPA programme which had aired that evening on BBC2. The main concern was whether the proposed new facility would actually meet the needs of the current residents or of the elderly in the area who would need help in the future. It was hoped that the political will in Holyrood, following the changes there, would make a difference. A letter to our local MSP was also suggested.
Retiral of Mrs Jackie Sheddan – Mrs Sheddan was due to retire from Loch Duich Primary School at the end of June, after nearly 20 years of teaching there. A farewell concert, on behalf of pupils and the entire community, was planned for Thurs. 21 June at 7pm in Kintail Hall. Marina asked whether a donation might be made towards the costs of the evening. Willie proposed that a £50 cheque be sent to the school. This was seconded by Teens.
Date of future meeting –Thursday 28th June 2007, 8pm in the Inverinate Community Centre
