Chairman’s Report & Correspondence
Junior Pipe Band – Berywn referred to the band newsletter
and said he’d be keen to get updates on their progress. Teens
confirmed they were going for Lottery funding again.
Website – Liz Taylor had been in touch re.
annual renewals of subscriptions to the website. Donald agreed to
liase with Liz
on the payment of fees etc.
Matters Arising
Transerv – Biz
had found out that the Acting Area Manager, Mark Smith, had resigned
and Andy Fraser has taken his place. Since
last meeting, Berwyn had met with Transerv rep. and discussed roads
issues including drain covers, footpath etc. Marina to forward previous
emails to Andy for action. Donald also mentioned how the lack of
a kerb was causing problems with the drainage of water off the main
road running down the hill to Forestry houses.
Digital TV – Following on from TV questionnaire,
Berwyn had been in touch with Charles Kennedy asking him to put pressure
on
the BBC to send an engineer to our area to explain what locals need
for digital TV.
Over 60s Party – it was agreed that £250
be issued for the Over 60s Party. (Proposed by Jayne, seconded by
Teens).
Bonfire night fireworks – agreed that £250
be issued for the fireworks at party on 8th Nov. (Proposed by John,
seconded
by Jayne). Donald mentioned that, for the week running up to the
party, a trailer would be in Community Centre car park for collection
of stuff for bonfire.
Travelling Expenses – Berwyn was keen for the expenses rate
to be agreed but, given Fiona (the treasurer’s) absence, decided
to carry item forward to the next meeting.
Christmas cards – agreed that no cards would
be issued that year. Marina to find out cost of placing Christmas
greeting, from
the Community Council, in WHFP.
Scottish Water – Donald referred to recent
letter re. chloramination and suggested this was raised with Fiona
at future meeting, to see
if we need to pursue further.
Phoebe MacAskill fundraiser – Several locals (adults & children)
were involved in the fundraising dinner on 4th Oct for two year old
cancer sufferer, Phoebe. Money raised would go to covering cost of
going to USA for potentially lifesaving treatment. It was proposed
that £500 be given to the fund. This was unanimously agreed.
Marina gave her heartfelt thanks to everyone for their generous support.
AOCB
Community
Council ‘correspondent’ – Two
folks had volunteered to be contacts in Letterfearn/Totaig. As
and when
they had issues to raise, they would contact Berwyn and/or Marina.
It was suggested that a further contact be found for Ratagan.
Recycling – there was a query as to when cardboard
and plastic recycling was coming to Lochalsh. Biz suggested attending
the next
Ward Forum where the Head of Highland Council Recycling would be
addressing the meeting. (Since the meeting, Marina has arranged for
Phil Dewar, Waste Management Assistant -Awareness raising, with Highland
Council to attend next meeting on 20th Nov)
Clachan Duich – Donald mentioned that there
was not a lot of space left in the cemetery and wondered about the
possibility of
extending it. Biz to investigate.
School grass cutting – Contractors had been
contacted by school and had agreed to cut the grass shorter. Highland
Council had stated
that grass was not picked up because of the cost and there was too
much for composting.
School polytunnel – Berwyn mentioned recent
WHFP article. There was a lot of interest in the polytunnel and the
community council
were keen to support the children in this enterprise.
Dates of next meeting
The next meeting will be on Thurs 20th Nov 2008.
