Minutes of previous meeting were approved.
Police matters – Berwyn thanked Brian & Sgt. Hunter for
coming along. They then followed up on items raised last time:-
•
Home security – The Police no longer have a dedicated Home
Security Advice Officer but Sgt. Galloway in Portree is qualified
to do this job. As he is now working full time in Portree, it is
not possible for him to do house calls. However, he is happy for
persons wishing security advice to telephone him.
• Dumped vehicles – Brian confirmed that dumped vehicles will
be uplifted free according to the posters) by phoning 08452 30 40
90 or visiting www.caruplift.com
The suggestion of using ‘smiley face’ speed warning signs
in Inverinate was again raised but Biz said she had been advised
it was not possible to site them on trunk roads.
The recent high number of accidents between Cluanie & Invermoriston,
due to icy roads, was raised. Everyone was seriously concerned that
a fatality would occur if the situation were to continue. The police
confirmed they had contacted Transerve with their concerns about
the gritting of the road. It was agreed that a letter also be sent
from the Community Council to Transerve, Highland Council and the
Scottish parliament.
Brian & Sgt Hunter were then thanked for attending the meeting
and left.
Chairman’s Report & Correspondence
Ward Forum – Berwyn welcomed Robbie Bain at this point and
both he and Berwyn gave feedback from the recent Ward Forum in Kyle.
Housing, community council grants and the local plan were some of
the subjects discussed. Whilst seeing the benefit of ward meetings,
Berwyn also stressed the need for provision to be made from Highland
Council to cover the travel costs of community councillors in attendance.
Masts – Carr Brae mast had been serviced several months ago
but the estate had no estimate of cost as yet. As far as Ratagan
was concerned, there appeared to be no future for that mast at all.
Matters Arising
Hall Committee – Berwyn was happy to report that there were
now 15 on the new committee and the work there would continue.
OAP Party – Berwyn mentioned that the hall committee are looking
at re-organising a party, possibly later in the year.
Over 60s – Marina had not sent out cards but would instead
be sending a letter introducing the members of the Community Council
and letting folks know what they might be able to do on their behalf,
as well as wishing them well for the rest of 2008.
AOB
Lochalsh Junior Pipe Band – Teens mentioned that the new pipe
band would be in touch looking for any donation towards their costs.
Everyone was supportive of this and asked Teens to bring a letter,
with further information, to the next meeting.
Website – Liz had reported that Jan 08 had been the busiest
month to date with almost 1,600 hits. Marina encouraged folks to
check out the revised website and give their feed back to Liz Taylor
via info@housebytheloch.co.uk.
